We are currently hiring for a LPN to work 36 hours per week on the Night Shift, to support the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Unit. Typical night shift 7pm-7am, holidays and weekend per the guidelines of the department.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a health care provider who, under the direction of a professional Registered Nurse (RN), implements skilled nursing care to adult and geriatric patients, while observing for patient response to prescribed treatments and/or nursing interventions—within the LPN practice scope as delineated in the Maryland Nurse Practice Act.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   

  • Conducts ongoing patient observations to gather data relevant to the patient needs.

  • Records conditions and patient’s response to treatment.

  • Notifies assigned/team RN of any changes in condition.

  • Collaborates and assists RN in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nursing plan of care for the patient.  Updates the plan as appropriate.

  • Performs assigned nursing procedures for comfort and well-being of patients demonstrating a concern for patient safety.

  • Administers medications in a safe and effective manner.

  • Participates in patient/family education and discharge planning, documenting appropriately.

  • Updates the teaching plan as appropriate.

  • Establishes priorities appropriately, based on patient needs.

  • Participates in evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.

  • Demonstrates skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to adult and geriatric patients including knowledge of growth and development, the ability to obtain information and to provide the care needed.

  • Communicates effectively to patients, families, and the health care team, utilizing both written and verbal communication skills.

  • Responds to patient crisis situations as outlined in unit specific standards. 

  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established CCHS and departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.

  • Completes mandatory in-service education.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing

  • Per offer of employment letter, signed commitment upon hire to obtain RN license and then subsequent BSN degree within the defined time frame.

Hourly Pay Range: $27.31 - $40.96

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
